The Philadelphia Soul are back in town and ready to celebrate after clenching a championship win at the ArenaBowl.
The team, owned by rock star Jon Bon Jovi, brought the championship trophy home to Philadelphia, but not without a few hiccups.
Soul members arrived at the Philadelphia International Airport to a heroes welcome Monday, but their trophy had to take a separate flight. Flying home on a commercial flight, the team learned their hard-earned victory could not be squeezed onto the packed aircraft.
“I tried to get it a seat on the plane, but you know what, the plane was packed, we just couldn’t get it on there,” said Rich Lisk, the GM of the Philadelphia Soul.
The football trophy was stored underneath the plane, forcing the champs to wait for it at the airport baggage carousel.
“It should be coming. It’s on its way, you can’t miss it,” said quartback Matt D’Orazio, the league MVP.
Players waited for over an hour for the trophy to appear after taking their indirect flight from New Orleans.
After a bit of searching, airport Skycap Dudley Brown was the first to hoist the trophy in Philadelphia.
The celebration continues Thursday as the team heads down Market Street for a victory parade beginning at 2 p.m. The parade will start at 6th and Market Streets followed by a ceremony at City Hall.
