Surprise performers at the 46th Academy of Country Music awards in Las Vegas on Sunday night included Steven Tyler and Rihanna, but the night belonged to Taylor Swift and rising star Miranda Lambert. Taking the stage to collect the award for entertainer of the year, the 21-year old Swift said: “This is the first time that I’ve ever won this and I’m just losing my mind.”
Aerosmith singer and American Idol judge Tyler sang with Carrie Underwood – winner of the TV talent show in 2005 – on a high-energy version of Walk This Way, while the importance of the CMAs to all sectors of the US music industry was demonstrated when Rihanna joined country singer Jennifer Nettles for a Nashville-influenced version of the R&B star’s latest single California King Bed.
The 27-year-old Lambert was the biggest winner of the night, picking up trophies such as female vocalist of the year as well the song, video and single of the year awards for “The House That Built Me”.
The new artist award went to Mississippi group, the Band Perry, who also picked up single of the year for If I Die Young. Nashville band, Lady Antebellum, won album of the year and Brad Paisley was named top male vocalist for the fifth year running. Previous trophies for the prestigious Entertainer of the Year award include Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton and Garth Brooks.

Hollywood’s Scream Awards Means Screaming Fans

The Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre was the site of not your average awards show the other night. It was the venue for the the fun, and star-studded, Scream Awards; an awards show devoted to people, shows, and movies that have ever spooked or scared.
Fans and stars alike showed up dressed as vampires, skeletons, and zombies to watch trophies be presented to Keith Richards, who earned the ‘Rock Immortal award,’ as well as other shows like True Blood, Star Trek and of course, Twilight.
The ‘Ultimate Scream’ trophy was presented to the Star Trek movie. Guests were surprised when William Shatner got up on stage to accept the award. He made his point clear when he said, “”This movie was big. Imagine how big it could have been with me in it? … I’ll be waiting for your call.”

Winning the Heisman Trophy does not guarantee a college football player a long and successful pro career, although every football player would love the bronze statue displayed on their mantle. Even if they do not have a successful career, they could use it like O.J. did as collateral to help pay off civil penalties.

Trophy News from Los Angeles, California
LOS ANGELES — The backstage trophy table was the place to be for serious celebrity watching at Sunday’s 60th annual Primetime Emmy Awards - never mind that it was in the basement of a parking garage.
At one point Conan O’Brien was chatting on his cellphone as Amy Poehler and her husband, Will Arnett, walked by on their way to the elevator that would take them to the press tent. Kiefer Sutherland strolled by the trophy table just ahead of Tom Selleck. Christian Slater paused to wave to a group of firefighters working the awards show.
