Trophy, top seed lost by Fort Payne
…..
The Top Cat Trophy — sponsored by the Times-Journal and the Scottsboro Daily Sentinel — also changed hands in Fort Payne’s first loss to Scottsboro (5-4, 4-3) in four years in the 73rd meeting between the two teams. Scottsboro clinched the region’s final playoff spot with the win.

“My hat is off to them,” Fort Payne coach Paul Ellis said. “We just didn’t do enough to get it done. I’m not making any excuses. They just beat us. They did a great job.”

Trailing 17-14 through the third quarter, Fort Payne regained the lead on a 7-yard touchdown run up the middle by quarterback Kyle Crabtree. A 30-yard pass from Crabtree to Akeem Appleton two plays earlier set up the touchdown.

On its next possession, Scottsboro executed a 10-play, 51-yard drive that ended with Deuantae Johnson scoring from 9 yards out to give the Wildcats a 24-21 lead with 1:58 left.

Fort Payne’s last possession started on its own 20. A pass from Crabtree to Kyle Conkle gained 8 yards. But on fourth and 2, running back Blake Smith was stopped a yard short and Scottsboro took over with 1:22 left.

“I think they limited our big plays,” Ellis said. “They have a huge quarterback and a big running back and just kept irking out first downs. That’s the mark of a good team.”

Fort Payne started the game by taking its first drive 80 yards on 14 plays. The drive was capped off by Appleton going the final 1 yard for the touchdown.

Scottsboro took advantage of an interception that set up a 33-yard Jay Benson field goal early in the second.

Midway through the second, Fort Payne recovered a Scottsboro fumble on its 30-yard line that set up a 32-yard touchdown pass from Crabtree to Smith.

On its next possession, Scottsboro managed a nine-play, 73-yard drive that ended with a 17-yard touchdown run by J.J. Smith to cut the lead to 14-10.

On Fort Payne’s next drive, just before the half, Scottsboro’s Zachary Mardis blocked a punt and scooped it up on the 1-yard line as he headed into the end zone. The touchdown gave Scottsboro a 17-14 lead at the half.

Fort Payne will finish the regular season against Gadsden on Friday in Fort Payne.

“We’ve got a tough Gadsden City left to play,” Ellis said. We’ll have to get our kids well this week and come out with a good game plan.”

Crabtree finished the game completing 16 of 31 passes for 155 yards. Appleton had 131 total yards.

Magic of the cup as Dragons get their hands on old trophy

CHRISTMAS came early to Wrexham’s Colliers Park training ground yesterday, but manager Dean Saunders insists there will be no gifts on offer for FA Cup trophy minnows Eastwood Town.

Members of the Dragons squad queued up to get their hands on the FA Cup trophy – which was brought to Wrexham by the tournament sponsors – and they later donned Santa Claus outfits to publicise a forthcoming fund-raising fun run in aid of Hope House children’s hospice.

Happy though he was to co-operate with both stunts, Saunders – an FA Cup trophy winner with Liverpool in 1992 – said it would be business as usual as the Dragons bid to overcome their Unibond Premier League opponents to book a first-round spot.

“We want to go as far as we can in the competition and I’m looking at this game as one we should win,” he added.

“There’s nothing else on my mind and I expect us to play the way we have been since I came into the club.”

A hat-trick of victories since Saunders took over from Brian Little have seen Wrexham climb the Blue Square Premiership league table.

But Saunders must make at least two changes from the side that beat Mansfield 2-1 last weekend.

Defender Mike Williams, who scored at Field Mill but was later concussed, has been ruled out and loan signing Joe Allen has returned to Swansea City for treatment to an ankle ligament injury sustained in training on Tuesday.

But full-back Carl Tremarco should be available for selection, while striker Jefferson Louis – missing last Saturday with a hamstring strain – returned to training only yesterday.

Saunders said: “Jefferson is touch and go, but, with us winning three games, it’s a lot easier to pick the team than if we had lost all three.

“But if our attitude is not right we will suffer, so I want everybody to show our fans that they are fully committed when they are wearing a Wrexham shirt.

“The players should feel lucky to be in such a position.”

Underlining his determination to guide Wrexham through to Monday’s first-round draw, Saunders added: “I won the cup with Liverpool and I had the unfortunate experience of playing for Swansea as a young player when we got knocked out by Bognor Regis after a replay.

“I didn’t like that feeling and you’d better believe it was infinitely better going to Wembley with Liverpool.

“There’s a potential upset at the Racecourse and we have to make sure it doesn’t happen.

“We might have to show the ugly side of the game against Eastwood. It’s easy to say we’ll work hard, but we have to do it when we are tired as well.

“It’s easy to give up and it’s a really big game for Eastwood. I’m sure they will have prepared well and so we know what to expect.

“We have to defend properly, make sure there are no silly mistakes or sendings-off and ensure that we are totally professional.

“We need to match whatever they throw at us and, that being the case, I’d like to think the talented players we have will produce something for us.”

Eastwood manager Paul Cox said: “Nobody is giving us any chance of winning, so the pressure is well and truly off the players.

“It’s a great draw for us and we’ll give it our best shot.”

A simple question to the lovers of football, Which trophey is the aim at the start of the season, which trophey do you want your club to win the most?
There are many trophies to be won from every season and every team has chance to win one. If you are the smallest side or the biggest side you have a fair chance when the season begins. Many teams try to get many trophies in one season and other teams focus on one trophy in particular.

However I’m writing this article to find out which trophy is the most important to the fans and try to find out the most popular title in football.

Ill look at the main trophies a team can win such as the Champions League, Premier League and others.

UEFA Champions League

Europe’s best teams goes up against each other to decide the fate of this trophy. Some say you have to be the best team in the world to win it. as I said this trophy brings the best teams in the world together such as Real Madrid, Manchester United and AC Milan and many many more…

The Final is selected by a Qualifying round then a Group stage followed by the last 16, 8, 4 and finally the best two teams to emerge from it all fight it out in the final. In the last year we were treated to a fascinating final between eventual winners Manchester United and Chelsea. Who will be the winners this campaign?

Is this the most popular trophy in the world?

Premier League

The top league in England and reported to be the most popular league in the world. Manchester United , Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are the normal top four but after the uprising of some new talent Manchester City, Portsmouth, Everton, Spurs and Aston Villa all have a chance.

Manchester United were the winners from the past two seasons and are aiming to make it a hat-trick this campaign.

F.A Cup

The League that every team in England wants to win and has a chance to win. The game could be a Top of the league giant vs a bottom of the league minnow. Many say it has a certain wisdom and feeling about it and no matter whats on the cards an upset is always possible. Barnsley showed us that last year by beating Liverpool and Chelsea.

It is a great chance for a team out side the top four of the premier league to win such as last campaign’s winners Portsmouth.

Carling Cup

The Carling Cup is like a smaller F.A Cup and is a great chance for a team to put out some of their future stars. Arsenal, Manchester city and Everton have produced some of the best stars in England by doing this. Just like the F.A cup the Carling Cup is a great chance for a team outside of the top four to get a trophy.

The final can bring some great teams together such as last campaigns eventual winners Tottenham and runners up Chelsea.

UEFA Cup

The UEFA Cup is the smaller version of the Champions League and is the chance for a team that finishes 5th, 6th and 7th to play against teams from Europe. If you win the trophy you get a chance to play in the Champions League such as last years winners Zenit St Petersberg.

Ac Milan are this years Favorites but will an English side cause an upset?

Well there’s the list and If you want to leave a comment or vote for the trophy you like the most then please feel free to leave a comment and ill get back to you, like wise if you want to add a trophy please feel free.

As always hope you enjoy the Article
