If the NFL handed out Lombardi Trophies for salary cap management or accumulation of talented individual players or confidence that borders at times on hubris, the Eagles would have some hardware to go along with that pair of NFC titles won in 2004 and 1980.

But the ultimate prize continues to be reserved for the winner of the ultimate game, and the Eagles ultimately have failed to do that, for 45 years and counting. This year, team president Joe Banner declared that the difference between success and failure to be winning the Super Bowl. So far, the Eagles have won one of three regular-season games.

After Sunday’s loss to the Giants, running back LeSean McCoy tried to lay claim to another one of those non-trophy trophies, proclaiming that the better team didn’t win the game. “That team over there is not better than us,” McCoy said, per Ebenezer Samuel of the New York Daily News. “But we can’t keep saying that each week we lose.
“Everybody’s hyping us up to be this great team, and we lose two games straight. Nobody’s going to give us victories because we got all the best players.”

McCoy fundamentally is right. But on what basis does he rely when claiming that the Giants aren’t better than the Eagles? The scoreboard says that, on Sunday, the Giants were 13 points better than the Eagles.

The Vince Lombardi trophy is back in Titletown and the Green Bay Packers will have it on display for all the fans to see. The Packers Hall of Fame is unveiling their ‘Return to Titletown’ exhibit Thursday along with the Vince Lombardi Trophy. The special exhibit will look back at the Pack’s 2010 season which capped off with a victory in Super Bowl XLV.

The Lombardi Trophy will be displayed near the Halas Trophy from the NFC Championship win over the Chicago Bears. Both the Halas Trophy and Lombardi Trophy were sent to Tiffany’s & Co. in New York City, where the final scores of both the NFC Championship and Super Bowl XLV were engraved on the trophies.

Besides the famous Super Bowl trophy, some of the items that will be featured in the special exhibit include artifacts and equipment from the past season. The Lombardi Trophy will not be in the exhibit May 10-14 as it will be included on the ‘Packers Tailgate Tour’. It will return to its permanent place in the Hall of Fame Monday, May 16.

Once the ‘Return to Titletown’ exhibit closes in early September, the Lombardi Trophy will be permanently moved into its own tower and display case within the Hall of Fame room, alongside the trophies from Super Bowl I, II and XXXI.

The Vince Lombardi Trophy is back in Titletown.

The Green Bay Packers say it arrived Thursday on a Brink’s security truck. The trophy had been at Tiffany & Co. in New York City where it was engraved with the final score of Super Bowl XLV. The team says fans can see the Super Bowl trophy on display May 5-9 in the Packers Hall of Fame with the other trophies before it heads out on the road as part of the organization’s ‘Tailgate Tour.’

The team’s fourth Lombardi Trophy will be part of an exhibit of trophies called “Return to Titletown.” The George S. Halas Trophy for the NFC Championship game, which was also given a proper engraving, will be on display as well. The special display will close sometime around early September, and the Lombardi Trophy will get its own tower and display case next to the previous three trophies.

Who had the honor of handing the Vince Lombardi trophy (aka the Super Bowl trophy) over to the Green Bay Packers tonight? Roger Staubach was the lucky guy. And who is Roger Staubach?

Roger is the executive chairman of Chicago-based commercial real estate services firm Jones Lang LaSalle. If you’re a football fan, you’ll also know that he was the quarterback who led the Dallas Cowboys to victories in Super Bowl VI and Super Bowl XII.

An interesting fact? Staubach actually picked the Packers to win! “You can mark my word: The Packers will prevail.” Although Staubach lost Super Bowls X and XIII to the Steelers in the 1970s, he had this to say about his pick: “I have nothing but the utmost respect and admiration for the Steelers and the city of Pittsburgh,” he says. “But the numbers don’t lie. The Lombardi Trophy is going back to TitleTown USA.”

As I’ve said before, I’m a fan of random trivia, and I was interested in learning more about the Vince Lombardi trophy. Here are five interesting facts about the trophy:

Since 1967, the Super Bowl trophy has been awarded to winning franchises, starting from the time when the Super Bowl was still known as the AFL-NFL World Championship Game.

In 1970 the trophy was renamed as the Vince Lombardi Trophy, in honor of the former Green Bay Packers head coach who died from cancer.

The trophy is designed and manufactured by Tiffany & Co. It stands at 22 inches tall and weighs about 7 pounds. It’s made from sterling silver, and depicts a regulation-size ball fixed in kicking position. The value of the Vince Lombardi trophy is $25,000.

The estimated time to create this kind of special trophy is 4 months and 72 hours.

Today, the NFL team that holds the most number of Vince Lombardi Football Trophies is the Pittsburgh Steelers, which owns six.

Well it is home sweet home for the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

The Green Bay Packers win Superbowl 45 over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

This game victory lead to Green Bay’s fourth Super Bowl title. The Packers won the first two Super Bowls with Vince Lombardi coaching Bart Starr, and they claimed another with Brett Favre in January 1997.

Game Highlights: The Steelers trailed 21-3 before halftime. Ben Roethlisberger pulled them within 28-25 midway through the fourth quarter with a touchdown pass and a nifty two-point conversion. The Packers answered with a field goal, giving Roethlisberger and the Steelers one last chance. Needless to say it was not enough but very close and the Packers keep the lead and took the victory and one of the most famous trophies even back home to Green Bay.

Other than the game highlights: The game opened with Christina Aguilera’s National Anthem which got some buzz as off key and missing lyrics. She did fine. If you missed the halftime show then you did not miss much as the Black Eye Peas, bombed, bombed, bombed with guest slash and usher. And of course some great commercials.

What a great game unless you are a Steelers fan. The Green Bay Packers pulled it off and they deserved the trophy after a great season like that. When in comes to football trophies there is non other than the Lombardi trophy.

Green Bay came out strong and looked like they were going to take over the game early. After the half time show the Steelers came back and gave the Packers a run for the money. Pittsburgh could of had it but the big fumble crushed them. In the end the Packers took the game and proudly took the super bowl trophy.

One of the best moments last night was when the Steelers’s Rashard Mendanhall got shoved into the sideline and shoves a camera man to slow his momentum.

If your a Steelers fan you going to want to read this. Steelers fans can get an up close look at all six of the team’s Super Bowl trophies at the Sen. John Heinz History Center and Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum.

The trophies will proudly be on display until Sept. 15 during regular museum hours, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

This Sunday the Steelers start the season Sunday at home against the Atlanta Falcons.

The museum is expecting “robust” crowds to come and see the trophies, and since the opening of the exhibit on Thursday, a steady stream of decked-out fans have been making their way through, said Ned Schano, director of communications. In fact, he noted that many families were coming in their Steelers gear to take pictures for this year’s Christmas cards.

Last August, the museum had all six trophies on display for two and half weeks, and 15,000 visitors came through, Schano said. The museum had a total of 185,000 visitors last year. In previous years, they have also had either all four trophies or all five trophies on display.

The Steelers aren’t the only organization that lends the center its championship symbols. In April, the center hosted the Penguins Stanley Cup for the four days of Easter weekend. An estimated 17,000 people viewed that display.

The miniature gold- plated cups, worth around 100 pounds each, were snatched from a store cupboard at FIFA’s base in Johannesburg.

“We are looking into it. The suspects are people who are very familiar with the environment,” said Cele.
