Karate Kids Score some Trophies!

Tobi Ishi Kai Karate Schools scored numerous trophies in the English Wado Federation Championships at Nunnery Wood Leisure Centre.

Harvey Julian, Samantha North, Cerys Danks and Callum Whatmore won individual kata gold medals.

In the pairs, there were golds for Joe Wilson and Nathan Clarke, as well as Tara Wilson and Whatmore.

Results: Whatmore 3 golds 1 silver 0 bronze, T Wilson 2-0-1, Emily Davies 1-1-1, Julian 1-1-0, North 1-0-1, C Danks 1-0-0, Clarke 1-0-0, J Wilson 1-0-0, Joshua Rabot 0-1-1, Joshua Thomas 0-1-1, Bryony Danks 0-1-0, Jordan Price 0-1-0, Sian Morgan 0-1-0, Jessica Bishop 0-0-1, Kyle Harding 0-0-1, Daniel Haimes 0-0-1, Leanne Simpkins 0-0-1, Joe Dyson 0-0-1, Imogen Jammal 0-0-1.

All and all it was a huge success for all and congratulations on all trophies.

Karate trophies well deserved

MEMBERS from the Dereham Shotokan Karate Club travelled to Ipswich on Sunday for the East of England Karate Cham-pionships.

From over 300 competitors Dereham TSKR took home three first-place trophies.

Iain Paterson was first in Junior Kata (Forms), Gaynor Wagg was first Senior Female Kata, Mario Moutinho first in Men’s Kumite (Sparring).

Hannah Coole, a first-timer to the competition scene, gained a well-deserved fifth place in Junior Kata, just missing out on a medal by a few points.

Traditional Shotokan Karate Ryu (TSKR) is under the instruction of national coach and examiner Terry Wittkopp 4th degree Black Belt.

He currently trains with the England squad, with some of the best competitors in the UK. (more…)

Oxnard, California students win 43 first place trophies

Sasakis Kenpo Karate in Oxnard, CA recently hosted the 2nd annual California Coast Championships at the Ventura County Fairgrounds. Over 150 martial arts competitors, ranging from 4-years-old to 60-years-old competed at the event.

Jody Sasaki, who has coached five black belt world champions, demonstrated that perhaps he has several more on their way. Sasaki students took home 43 first place awards at the Cal Coast.

Leading the way for Sasaki Kenpo was 22-year-old brown belt Jaime Fernandez. Fernandez, who hopes to earn his black belt later this year, placed first in sparring and traditional forms. After competing against other divisional winners, Fernandez also earned the overall adult forms and weapons grand championship. Another Sasaki student that had an amazing afternoon was Jaime Bucio. The 8-year-old brown belt won a tournament high five first place trophies. Jaime placed first in self-defense, team forms, flag sparring, point sparring and extreme forms.

Many other Sasaki students to brought home first place trophies including the youngest competitor of the tournament – 4-year-old Gage Grant.
