Mandela honored today at the Nelson Mandela Foundation event.
FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter today (Tuesday, 16 September) paid tribute to” his friend Madiba” at a private audience at the Nelson Mandela Foundation with a very special gift. To commemorate the historic moment on 15 May 2004 when the former President of South Africa and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Nelson Mandela, emotionally raised the iconic Trophy right after the 2010 FIFA World Cup was awarded to South Africa, Blatter handed over a specifically manufactured replica of the FIFA World Cup. “You are the true architect of this FIFA World Cup; your presence and commitment made it happen. Now the first African FIFA World Cup is a reality and the FIFA Confederations Cup South Africa 2009 – the dress re-hearsal – will already take place in less than ten months’ time,” explained Blatter on handing over the trophy to Mandela “I remember that moment back in Zurich. It’s an honour to welcome you here today. It was my desire to meet you and I am happy that we managed it. Thank you for this very special gift,” said Mr. Mandela, who assigned the Trophy a special place in his office. The FIFA President was accompanied by FIFA Secretary General Jérôme Valcke and FIFA Ambassador Tokyo Sexwale.

O’Brian White has a Facebook – and uses it too. He can tell you how to cook a traditional Jamaican meal and although White admits he’s not faster than Usain Bolt, he is one of Bolt’s biggest fans.
White walks to classes, talks in a soft voice with a Jamaican accent and puts out a firm handshake. To many, he’s the average 23-year old living the average college life.
But in the world of collegiate soccer, he’s known as something a little more than average. He’s the best NCAA Division I soccer player in the country and the title isn’t self-acclaimed.

Significant silverware got lifted again in RFK Stadium, as D.C. United claimed one of the three major U.S. domestic soccer trophies on Sept. 3.
D.C. United defeated Charleston Battery 2-1 and captured the 95th [!] Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. It was the Screaming Eagles’ third appearance in the competition’s final and their second victory there. There still remains the ultimate prize, the MLS Cup, and the most unwanted of trophies, the Supporters Shield, in the 2008 season.

University of Connecticut men’s soccer player O’Brian White (Scarborough, Ontario) headlines the list of 48 men’s Division I intercollegiate soccer players that comprise the Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy Watch List for 2008, as released by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Tuesday.
Connecticut and Saint Louis each have three players on the soccer trophy list, as does reigning national champion Wake Forest. Four other schools have two players recognized: Central Connecticut State, Creighton, Harvard and Loyola (Md.).

Athletes Rewarded At Annual Trophy Awards Dinner

Tunstall High School spring athletes were honored at the annual trophy awards dinner on June 2. Dinner was served in the cafeteria before each sport met separately to present its trophies.
The girls’ soccer team honored several members. Maggie MacLeish was named offensive Most Valuable Player, while Lauren Elliott received the MVP trophy for the defense.
Taylor Paige was presented with the Most Improved award, while Melanie Burnett and Amber Elliott each received a Coach’s Trophy,
The boys’ team was also presented with awards. Zack Rice was named Most Valuable for his offensive efforts this season, while Ryan Wilkinson was MVP for defense.
Jake Stilley was recognized as Most Improved, and Carlos Manzanares and Jess Hendrix both received Coach’s Trophies.
The baseball team passed out honors to its members as well. After their successful season, Brett Hylton was named Most Valuable Offensive Player and Justin Thompson was named Most Valuable Defensive Player.
First Prize Trophy at Soccer Tournament

The Nkele tournament kicks-off at the Zone 11 soccer fields on June 22 and will run until July 12. This tantalizing tournament will see 32 soccer teams vie for the R10 000 first prize money, a trophy, medals and a soccer kit. The three regressive runners-up will also walk away with prizes.
According to the tournament’s organizer says there will also be trophies for individuals, including Player of the Tournament, Top Goal Scorer of the Tournament, Goalkeeper of the Tournament and Coach of the Tournament. Also, numerous local professional soccer players will feature in the tournament.
After the tournament, they will stage the Champs of Champs. This is when the top four teams will battle it out to eventually emerge victorious and win the ultimate soccer trophy.
The defending champions, JIG FC, are determined to defend their title. Last year they won the soccer trophy after beating Sebokeng All Stars FC in a nail biting final.

Tottenham wins their first trophy in nine years
WEMBLEY, England – Tottenham rallied to beat Chelsea 2-1 Sunday in extra time in the Carling Cup final, giving Spurs their first trophy in nine years.
Now Juande Ramos, who won two straight UEFA Trophy Cup titles at Sevilla, will turn his focus to winning a third trophy in Europe’s No. 2 competition.
“To come in after a few months and win a trophy is an incredible achievement,” Tottenham striker Robbie Keane said. “He’s given us the belief that we can win every game and you can see that in our performances since he took over.”
With Tottenham faltering under Martin Jol, Ramos was lured from Sevilla, where he also won the Copa del Rey, the Spanish Super Cup and the European Super Cup.
“It’s always a tremendous satisfaction to win a trophy,” Ramos said. “This one maybe has a special flavour to it because it was against a team that was superior to us. Perhaps it makes it taste better.
Trophy for Worcester Soccer team

An enthusiast soccer player lead Worcester’s deaf Soccer team to trophy victory in the annual five-a-side tournament for Deaf UK people. The seventh annual Rudolph Five-a-Side Tournament took place in Derby today.
24-year-old Aimee Cockler joined Worcester City Ladies at the start of the season and has played in the club’s Kidderminster County League side.
This Worcester team which Aimee assembled, proved a winning combination as they overcame Derby, Doncaster, Leeds, Fulham and London-based St John’s and finally, Everton. One goal was all that was need to take the trophy.
Trophy on display in Brazil

International Soccer star Kaka won FIFA’s World Player of the Year in December. The trophy will be put on display at his church in Brazil.
The Sao Paulo temple of the evangelical Reborn in Christ Church will be temporarily displaying the trophy.
The Brasilia-born star celebrated the New Year in one of the temples and announced the trophy will be displayed there, on a specially-built stand.
“I don’t win alone. I want to thank God for all the victories and achievements I had this year as a player,” said Kaka.
“I bring here two awards – one is my son who is coming soon. The other is this FIFA trophy. I want to give it to God and place it in this church, in the House of God.”
