The Thomas family in West University, Texas got to spend their Christmas the two MLS Championship trophies won by the Houston Dynamo. They were trophies from the 2006 and 2007 seasons.
The Dynamo auctioned off the big silver trophies to benefit Covenant House Texas, an organization that provides housing, outreach programs and community service to help keep young people off the streets. The Thomas family got the trophies for Christmas Eve, they were returned today.
Trophies News spotlights the 2007 Women’s Hermann Trophy watch list
46 players are included in the Women’s 2007 Hermann Trophy Watch List released by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Kerri Hanks of the University of Notre Dame, the 2006 winner of the Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy, is one of them.
Hanks was part of last season’s landmark sweep of the men’s and women’s awards by the University of Notre Dame. She joined Joseph Lapira who is included on the men’s Watch List for this fall.
A total of 14 schools have more than one representative on the list.
Players are selected to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List by a committee of Division I coaches who are NSCAA members. In the next few weeks, the list will be narrowed to 15 semifinalists. Three finalists will be named in early December in tandem with the NCAA Division I College Cup. The finalists will be invited to the Missouri Athletic Club on Friday, January 11, 2008. The winner of the 2007 award will be announced during a news conference that evening.

10 Welsh Premier League players have been named for the forthcoming International Challenge Trophy match against Italy. Semi-professional team manager Tony Pennock made the announcement today.
Run over two seasons, Wales join England, Finland and Italy in the four-team tournament. Wales start out against Italy on November 14 against opponents drawn from the Serie C League.
The International Challenge Trophy was previously known as the The European Challenge Trophy. It was renamed for this year’s tournament.
Update on the Mac Hermann 2007 soccer trophy watch list-
The University of Connecticut men’s soccer team is now ranked No. 1 according to this week’s Soccer America poll. The UConn Huskies are 11-1-0 on the season.
Led by MAC Hermann Soccer Trophy candidate Julius James, the UConn Huskies have already bypassed its win total from a year ago (10). This is James’ third Mac Hermann nomination.

The Canadian senior men’s soccer club championship was held yesterday at Wickwire Field in Halifax. Halifax City lost 2-1 to the St. Lawrence Laurentians of Newfoundland. The Laurentians won the bronze soccer medal after four straight wins over the past two days.
